JSU 1st GEN EVENT šŸ’™šŸ…šŸ¤

What an amazing day at JSU!

Meeting and engaging with students today about the challenges and successes of being an entrepreneur was an incredible experience! The students were extremely interested and approached my presentation with excitement. I highlighted some questions that were asked. I gave a quick run down because they all had hair related questions. Once they realized what my business was they then only wanted to talk about natural hair and products. I was totally fine with that. I can talk Hair all day! One thing I was very proud to see how many natural hair beauties approached my table. My free samples were gone in 25 mins šŸ˜…. Noticing that they were truly interested in taking care of their hair I invited them to join CURL BEAUTY UNIVERSITY. My Facebook platform where I teach textured hair. We have 9 new members today! That was a success!

Questions from today:

WHAT DO YOU ENJOY MOST ABOUT BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR?

I most enjoy making my own schedule. I am a military wife and mom. I schedule around my

kids schedules. This is extremely fulfilling because I am able to be super mom and also continue my dreams at the same time.

WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR DAILY HABITS?

ā€¢Daily Devotional (Very important for my mental health and my business exist because of my faith)

ā€¢Make a to do list for the day (Extremely important to prioritize my day, there is always a list. What can I get done today, what takes highest priority and what is low)

ā€¢Check calendar (How many clients I have that day and if I have products on hand needed for the service), check emails and orders that needs fulfilled (Fulfill orders before I take clients and make trip to post office).

WHAT DO YOU FIND MOST CHALLENGING ABOUT BEING AN ENTREPRENEUR?

1. Funding: Funding my business is always at the for front of my mind. surviving COVID was difficult

and I am still recovering.

2. Repetition: I find repeating the same thing over challenging. I have to remember although I've

discussed a topic many times a part of my clientele or customers may have never heard the advice.

Especially new clients who need that information. This is where I remember where my passion lies

and stay grounded and rooted in my knowledge and abilitie.

WHAT DO YOU WISH YOU COULD HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY?

I wish I had a savings plan when I was at my highest in income success. Making that much

money so fast, I only thought about making more. I wasn't prepared for a natural

disaster/pandemic.

WHAT MAKES AN ENTREPRENEUR SUCCESSFUL?

ā€¢ I am a goal setter. I celebrate all my success big or small. That is important in being your own boss

because there isn't a company to acknowledge the sucess for you.

ā€¢ If I am able to teach a client or customer something about their hair, I call that a success each time.

ā€¢ I also judge my succes by the low and highs of the year. How my financial books look and how many people I reached through my social media and speaking engagements.

WHAT HAVE BEEN YOUR MOST SIGNIFICANT FAILURES, AND WHAT DID YOU LEARN FROM THEM?

Testing a product or idea before launching it. What may be perfect or the best idea for me was

not always the case for my audience. The product wouldn't sell and flop and I would be stuck

with inventory and debt. Now I go through a thorough process before jumping straight to an

idea or making a new product.

HOW DO YOU PLAN FOR YOUR BUSINESS'S FUTURE?

Beginning of each year I do a "rebrand". Make new goals and decide what I will keep from the

previous year and what I will let go. I make realistic goals because I am a one woman show.

also try to remember to keep my goal obtainable so I can still enjoy my career.
