Presentation:
How many of you have returned natural?
How many of you decided to go for it and started watching YouTube videos only to be highly disappointed?
How many of you have returned natural and been hiding it under your wig ever since?
Hello, my name is Tanesha Brown, I am a licensed cosmetologist specializing in Textured and Natural Hair. I educate woman on how to care for their natural hair.
So why is natural hair so frustrating? During the hight of the natural hair trend black woman saw our identity coming to the for front of society. We were very excited about taking our identity back.
But what happened? We did not understand that natural is a Life Style not a hair style! We all went back without any direction, any instructions or know how.
So, what are the 4 keys to stopping natural hair frustration!!
🔑The keys to stopping natural hair frustration is to…
UNLEARN RELAXED HAIR RULES. You have to forget everything you ever learned about your hair. Example: No water touches your relaxed hair. No moisture on your relaxed hair. Natural hair lives for moisture. Relaxed hair should get trimmed every 6-8 weeks because of how harsh the chemical is. Natural hair is not so often. Maybe after or before a protective style. Let’s say maybe 3 trims a year. If you are properly taking care of your curly coily hair. Think of your hair as plant. What does a plant need? Water, oxygen (space to grow), nutrients and time (patience).
TYPE & DENSITY: Learn what your hair type is and its density. This will allow you to search natural hair videos with your similar hair texture. Hair density refers to the amount of individual hairs per square inch on your head (or scalp). Hair thickness has to do with the width of the actual strand, but density is speaking of a collective group of strands. Density refers to how many strands you have on your head as a whole.
DRYNESS: Why our hair is always dry? What’s wrong? How to properly replenish moisture. Everyone has sebum (oil) that comes from the scalp! Everyone! But why our hair doesn’t benefit from it? Straight hair allows the sebum to flow down the shaft. Coily hair does not! It gets stuck because it can’t flow down each curl or coil pattern. First thing you want to do is purchase a Microfiber towel. A regular cotton towel absorbs too much moisture after shampooing and conditioning your hair. Your coils also get caught and twisted in the cotton and breaks. Second you want to use my CSC method (Condition, Shampoo, Condition). Then use the LCO method. “L” is for Liquid (hair is still wet), “C” is for Conditioning Spray, and “O” is for Oil! Oil is a sealant. Oil is what’s going to seal in all the moisture you just added to your hair.
Porosity! Porosity is a measurement of the hair's ability to absorb and hold moisture. Porosity is seasonal. You may have low porosity during certain seasons like winter months. How to test your levels? Hair that is low porosity will float. Hair that is 'normal' porosity will float and then begin to sink slowly. Hair that is high porosity will sink immediately. How to balance out your porosity levels? What does your hair need? Knowing your porosity level is what’s going to help you shopping for products.
Once you have learned those four things you will be able to manage your hair much better.
Next you’ll need to know what works for you and basic how too’s. Let’s demonstrate some easy at home lessons you.
Presentation that day:
I already had hair prepped 4 sections. One already blowdried.
Demonstrate how to properly Detangle.
Explain the blow dried section and how much easier it is to manage hair once it’s blowdried. Your hair is still natural and there are 3 settings on your blow dryer to prevent heat damage.
Trimming damaged ends (show on two strands)
Any questions? How can I make hair day easier for you?
